High speed trains in under 45 minutes Can you imagine getting to your destination (what would normally be a 2.5 hour ride) in under 45 minutes, and in a capsule-like pod zooming across land like a jet plane? It's soon to become a reality...in Canada.
- My Top 5 Beatmakers of 2022
Sonic Escape Taking a break from reality is crucial these days and chillout/study playlists seem to be the sonic remedy for that. They're in our YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify feeds and feature some of the most organic, relaxing beats and grooves for ultimate concentration. - Loving the Howl
'Werewolf by Night' delivers classic-era fun with a modern twist. I'm forever a werewolf movie fan, so Marvel's "Werewolf by Night" trailer jumped out at me. I was pretty excited for what such a large studio could have to offer in terms of one of my favorite horror stories and decided to sit down one nice evening and see the movie for myself. At just under an hour, the movie was a fun watch - a much more adventurous and fun movie than your typical horror flick...combined with a grindhouse aesthetic and old-timey voice overs. Definitely a refreshing take on an old classic. Christian Rosselli loves audio, trains, and travel. Catch videos on YouTube & Tik Tok + pics on Insta.
- Food From the Source
Frank Pepe Pizzeria's canned tomatoes In this little video, famed Frank Pepe Pizzeria of New Haven brings the process of harvesting, picking and canning San Marzano tomatoes to life.
- YES, I Love Jurassic World Dominion
The newest installment is a fun nod to the original... If you're looking for a break from Marvel, Jurassic World Dominion is highly entertaining and as action-packed as the trailer suggests. I highly recommend it. Of course, it can't beat Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic but it takes a decent shot. Normally, high octane action and adventure films of today don't hold my attention, but this one had me watching until the end. Must be the superb CGI, and the original cast trio of Laura Dern, Sam Neil and Jeff Goldblum, who made everything great.
- People (Like Me) Still Listen to Records
Checking out Blue Note's Tone Poet Series on Vinyl As long as I can remember I've been a fan of vinyl records and their unbeatable analog sound. So when I discovered the new Tone Poet series from Blue Note Records, I immediately jumped on board. The series is part of a monthly vinyl re-release from the original tape masters by Rudy Van Gelder. I bought two albums from the series recently: "Out of the Blue" by Sonny Red and "Rough N' Tumble" by Stanley Turrentine. The result? Pristine sound in its truest, intended form. Everything is clear with no digital artifacts or over processed audio. And all this coming from my Uturn turntable, Vincent stereo pre-amp and little Audio Engine 2+ speakers, I might add. If you're in the market for good vinyl, turn to the Tone Poet series from Blue Note. You won't be disappointed.
- The Duct Tape Solution
Decades-old LIRR Train Cars temporary solution for Grand Central Project I'm looking forward to the East Side Access project being finished! The project, years in the works, will finally bring LIRR to Grand Central Terminal, which means we can easily avoid Penn Station for some trips. LIRR, on the other hand, has decided to revamp decades-old M3 cars as a temporary solution for operation once the project is completed. I'm not looking forward to that part, but we'll see what happens...
- Remembering Marla Kirban
My voiceover career began with three little words: "Florida Orange Juice" Those were the first lines of copy I ever uttered. It's late 2007 and I'm nervous, having been prodded by family and co-workers to explore this voice thing. From the minute I walk into her studio, Marla makes it easy. I feel instantly calm, and she believes in me from the get-go... Marla remained staunchly in my corner, making me more successful and sharing her incredible keys to the voiceover world. Even as her health diminished, we would connect for sessions and I never stopped being impressed with Marla's kindness, her generosity, and the energy she brought to so many people's lives. Truly one of a kind. I'll miss you, Marla. Thank you for everything you did for me and my career.
- Delta Keeps Soaring
New commercial for airline hits the air It also features the brilliant story-telling of one of my favorite actors - Viola Davis.
- Zombie Shark
Artist creates ghastly clay creature Of all the ways to get creative during a pandemic, this one certainly takes the cake. In this time lapse video from YouTuber JackJack, a totally original Zombie Shark is created from polymer clay and epoxy resin. It also helps when you've got a solid grasp of the visual arts. With shark sightings in the news lately and after a recent visit to Cape Cod, I can't help but entertain the fantasy of a half dead creature springing from the depths of the Atlantic to terrorize beaches across the eastern seaboard. And it looks like there's already made a movie version as well.
- Sennheiser Momentum OnEar Headphones Review
The Listening experience, Transformed Several years ago, after having gone through a few sets of random headphones and getting less than desirable results, I finally discovered a pair that surpassed them all in terms of sound quality: The Sennheiser Momentum On Ear Headphones. Since then, they’ve gone everywhere with me and have totally transformed the listening experience. So what’s all the buzz? Not only do they appeal to a variety of music lovers, in particular audiophiles (like me), but their pristine stereo sound is hard to resist. Put them on and let these noise-cancelling gems take you on a journey. Where other brands excel and, perhaps, over compensate with the punch of extra bass, the Momentum’s accentuate the fullness of classic HiFi sound with just the right amount of EQ. And that balances everything out quite nicely. I also found this to be the case when comparing them alongside my Beats Solo Wireless, also a great pair of headphones (for different reasons). For example, where the Beats succeed at amplifying sound across the board for say, hip hop or dubstep, the Momentum’s adjust to almost every genre flawlessly, particularly jazz, hip hop and even classical. Amidst everything, I can still hear sonic details without them getting drowned out by the booming bass. It's like having one of your Dad's high-end living room tube pre-amps at your disposal wherever you go. With live recordings, it feels like you’re there front and center with the artist. Plenty of drive and...oh yeah, momentum. In addition, the Sennheiser Momentum's come in handy when editing voice over on the road. While they don’t capture 16/24 bit mono audio as well as the Sony MDR 7506 (a stand-by for many voice over pros), they'll still suffice for smaller gigs with quicker turnarounds. Volume control is also available as is the ability to accept or reject calls during listening. Perhaps the only drawback is that, unlike Beats or newer Momentum models, they’re not wireless or collapsible and the dangling wire sometimes gets in the way when traveling. The leather case is protective enough but not as compact as I’d hoped. Minor inconveniences aside, you don’t want to miss this kind of sound experience.
