I ♥️ New Jersey - Here's Why
New Jersey has its own unique charm that goes beyond the iconic Sopranos and Sinatra connections. The state is a key spot for manufacturing and tech, with lots of bridges, tunnels, and factories. Getting around on the parkway can be a bit tricky, and drivers can be pretty aggressive, but it's still easier to handle than in some other areas. Plus there's tons of open space and views. I find it less stuffy than Manhattan, and the miles of power lines and marshes around Secaucus and Rutherford feel more like an oasis than a wasteland.
As a railfan, I appreciate NJ Transit for its diverse range of passenger locomotives. Many of these engines have been around for a while but continue to operate reliably. The train stations, including Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn, and Ho-Ho-Kus, are noteworthy as well. The light rail connects Hoboken to Newark and Jersey City, and Princeton Junction provides access to the Princeton Dinky, which takes you directly to Princeton University.
In terms of music events, New Jersey has several notable venues, including MetLife Stadium. If you’re traveling, Newark Liberty International Airport offers a convenient alternative to the often hectic JFK. Atlantic City is a cool mix of old-school charm and modern vibes. Hoboken, famous for being where Frank Sinatra was born, has a charming old train station, cobblestone streets, and lots of pastry shops and restaurants. The nightlife scene is a big hit with college students, which really livens up the place.
Plus, the Audible HQ in downtown Newark and the soon-to-be Netflix Studios in Fort Monmouth show that there's a growing presence in the state.
If you’re seeking a quieter experience, consider visiting Montclair, known for its jazz festival and excellent dining options. Other towns like Orange, Paramus, Parsippany, Somerville, and Ridgewood also offer a change of pace worth exploring.
